WELCOME > PLEASE COME INSIDE AND VIEW OUR SOAPS
Our cold-process Soap mixture of Olive Oil and Palm Kernal Oils are mixed together on a gentle heat and then a solution of Lye is added, helping the saponification reaction to take place. This means that our handmade soaps retain all the glycerine retained from the Palm Oil making a gentle bar of Soap. The coconut oil in our soaps also produce a luxurious lather giving a softer and more dense bubble leaving it much more smooth than a typical mass-production soap. .Highland Fresh use an inclusion of natural hand picked herbs resulting in them, being hand-made, hand-cut and hand-wrapped. Highland Fresh Soaps can be purchased from our shop at 3 antermony road milton of campsie or at some of the events we attend such as Highland Games, Agricultural shows, etc. Also all of our Highland fresh bars are hand-wrapped in a range of Traditional Scottish Tartans including Macdonald, Dress Stewart, Buchanan and various others.
Soap that is made commercially is usually produced from tallow a.k.a Animal Fats, these are then boiled at high temperatures with a solution of Lye which help saponification take place. It is then grated very finely and sent through a machine which compresses the soap shreds very tightly to produce a harder bar of Soap. This means that during the manufacturing of soap commercially glycerine is produced and is either washed away with the other waste products, or is separated out and sold on to the cosmetics industry. This is an incredible loss as glycerine is a natural moisturizer for the skin, and the removal of glycerine during the commercial production of soap is one of the reasons why commercial soaps can often be so drying to the skin.
